Pyramid Rock and The Melbourne Zoo

The next RocKwiz Live event will be at the Pyramid Rock Festival on Thursday December 29th where we will be entertaining the folk who have arrived early for the festival which has it's big night on New Years Eve. We're there for the early campers!  The RocKwiz event will feature a vast collection of stars from the past and the present and we will be looking for contestants from the crowd to get up and join us on stage.

There will be plenty of surprises on the night, including these two, who also joined us earlier in the year for one of our RocKwiz Live shows at BluesFest.

Tickets  for the Pyramid Rock Festival are still available here.

The next opportunity to see RocKwiz Live will be when RocKwiz Salutes The Animals on March 17th  as part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations for the Melbourne Zoo.

Again, another star studded line up of performers and you could expect there to be one or two artists with bands or songs that have a some animal connections.

Tickets for RocKwiz Salutes The Animals are available here.

Christmas Wrapping

The 2011 Christmas Tour started on December 1 in Canberra and finished in Perth on Saturday December 17 in Perth.  At The Palais Theatre in Melbourne on Friday December 9 we recorded the show to screen on SBS at 9.30 on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas tour has been a huge amount of fun and we have really enjoyed getting out and meeting people along the way

Our special thanks go to all the fabulous artists that joined Julia, Brian, The RocKwiz Orkestra and Dugald for the tour or made special appearances at some of the shows. Patience Hodgson and Henry Wagons were with us all the way, including Homebake. Rebecca Barnard Lanie Lane and Shellie Morris appeared everywhere else but Loene Carmen, accompanied by her father Peter Head, stepped in for Lanie at the State Theatre in Sydney.

Josh Pyke had Kav Temperley in Perth and Kram in Brisbane to deputise for him. Kram also joined us at Homebake. Ross Wilson was with us at Homebake too, and everywhere but Adelaide and the second night in Melbourne so Joe Camilleri and Ben Salter starred on those nights.

Paul Kelly made a special appearance at the first Palais show and the following night Denis Walter performed with the St Kilda Girls Choir when Jon English had to miss his only tour show.

The Nymphs were with us everywhere (except Homebake) to open each show and provide beautiful harmonies.

Every night on the tour had a slightly different musical line up and the local contestants provided unexpected karaoke highlights. So that about wraps up our Christmas Tour.

Thanks to all who made it possible to present, special thanks to all the artists, and most especially thanks so much to all the people who came along to see it and take part.

Have yourselves a very Merry Christmas and let's do it again sometime.

Homebake Backstage

When we played Homebake in Sydney we had a demountable backstage for the RocKwiz Orkestra to run some pre-show rehearsals.

Lanie Lane had been part of Straight To You, triple j's tribute to Nick Cave, and planned to duet again with Kram on another stage at Homebake.

They managed to squeeze in a run-through of the song amongst the Orkestra's comings and goings.

Apologies for the raw state of the recording but it does capture the moment.

More Christmas Tour Info

So, what can audiences expect on the night of The RocKwiz Christmas Tour? Of course Julia, Brian, the RocKwiz Orkestra, and Dugald will all be there but, in keeping with maintaining the “Who Can It Be Now?” mystery, the RocKwiz team remain tight-lipped about the identity of the special guests.

“A mix of legends and newcomers. We’ve hand-picked some of our current favourites” was all Brian Nankervis would divulge. Producer Ken Connor added, “For this tour we’ve expanded the Orkestra with Dan Luscombe joining us on guitar and The Nymphs as our Christmas Belles. We’ve found some new Christmas songs to cover and there will be a few surprises along the way. No two shows will be the same!”

Brian was quick to add “Don’t forget the stars drawn from the audience on the night, and yes, you can expect some Karaoke action. We’re looking for the brightest and the best rock brains to join us on stage and are about to use Facebook to find some of these contestants.”
